EEPG MEMBERS AT GUILD HALL CLOTHESLINE EXHIBIT

East End Photographers Group (EEPG), Jody Cukier, Cynthia DiGiacomo, Richard Law, and Joan Santos each shared their distinctive photographic works in the recent installment of the Clothesline Exhibit, at East Hampton's Guild Hall, adding photographic visual narratives to the event.

All Akimbo, Jody Cukier

antheia IV, Cynthia E DiGiacomo

Man in Phone Booth, Richard Law

Springs Gas Pumps, Joan Santos

Cukier presented All Akimbo, a digital pigment print of arranged calico scallops collected on Pacific Ocean beaches of Marina Del Rey, CA. Jody finds “beauty in that which is broken,” in her process of collecting fragments by the sea, putting together sculptures and abstract assemblies, and presenting as pigment photographs which “celebrate the texture, shape and sheer wonder of the design elements found in nature.”

DiGiacomo's antheia III and antheia IV weave together a myriad of photographic moments and locales into a singular piece. These two works are part of a larger series that present her experiences by the sea on the East End, Northern California, the Cyclades, and Iceland.

Law showcased Man in the Phone Booth, an embodiment of vintage New York City, a film photograph which, captured in 1985, serves as a poignant commemoration of a vanishing icon from a bygone era—the humble yet iconic phone booth.

Santos presented Springs Gas Pumps, offering a glimpse into the General Store and the vintage gas pumps are in the Springs Historic District...The property has been sold and may change its’ look in the coming year. I photographed it for posterity and played around with color in this version of the gas pumps.

The Guild Hall Clothesline Art Sale is one of the most beloved and affordable art traditions in the Hamptons since its inception in 1946. For 76 years, it has provided accessible artwork to the community, while supporting the local artists who thrive here. Throughout our history, great artists such as Alfonso Ossorio, James Brooks, John Little, Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and Elaine and Willem de Kooning have shared their talents to support Guild Hall in this unique annual fundraising effort (Guild Hall excerpt).

East End Photographers Group

The East End Photographers Group (EEPG) is the longest exhibiting arts organization at Ashawagh Hall with the exception of the Springs Improvement Society, who hosts their member’s show and the Annual Invitational art exhibit. The EEPG is an incorporated non-profit organization whose mission is to promote photography and the visual arts and do it in a community setting. It encourages photographic artists to exhibit new work at each show and gives support and a forum to new artists who are just beginning to exhibit their work, realize their personal vision and embrace the photographic process–which the EEPG believes is the most important aspect of attempting to create photographic art.

Liz Glasgow and other local Springs photographers organized the EEPG in 1988 and generally met at Tim Lee’s Springs photo studio to discuss photography, show work and have some fun. Up until that point there were no formal photography groups on the east end, other than informal meetings at photographers’ homes. The group’s first exhibition at Ashawagh Hall was the weekend of April 13, 1990, which created the tradition of an annual spring photography exhibition at the hall. The group went through many changes, adding members from surrounding towns and the North fork and began conducting meetings at Guild Hall. In the 1990’s some EEPG members, primarily from Southampton, broke off and formed the Photographers East organization. It should be noted that photographers from both groups have, at one time or another, been members of both organizations.

As a group, EEPG has exhibited on both the North and South Forks of Long Island as well as New York City.

The town of East Hampton, New York is our home base.
